Welcome Wes & Marc's Show & Tell

Dear Flower Class parents, DSCF5313Today we welcomed our new friend Wes to Flowers Class. Welcome Wes, it is great to have you in the class with us today! Welcome Wes!! Wes settled in very quickly and soon completed his morning jobs and started to play with his friends. On the main table Wes started by making a placemat for snack and lunchtime just like his friends. HeDSCF5326 used lots of sparkly pens, colored pencils and stencils to make his own placemat which was then covered in plastic by the teachers so that he could use it for the first time this morning. The ‘Flying Pig’ we have been making is finally dry and we had lots of fun watching the little pigs DSCF5331legs and wings move up and down when we turned the little handle. On the main table we continued making our bird’s nests with Nanako. First we needed to pop the balloons so that we could cover the inside of our papier-mâché nests. We had lots of twigs, leaves and shredded paper to make the nests nice and warm for our little model birds. The DSCF5333main farm model and animals were also very popular in the carpet pay area with many of us picking up our favorite farm animals and moving them around. On the second table Jennifer and Alexis added DSCF5337some more Styrofoam pieces to the giant sheep artwork we started yesterday. To put the Styrofoam on this time we used a brush and then added the Styrofoam by pressing lightly to make it stick to the cardboard backing. Toku and Marc then came to the table to put some color onto the sheep’s legs. For this they used some black paint markers and did a great job. We put the sheep artwork on the wall to dry and will DSCF5339continue with it tomorrow. After packing away the toys we did a very short circle time to introduce Wes to his friends and vise-versa. We sang our ‘Hello’ song and also looked at the calendar for today. After snack and library time DSCF5348we headed for the park and all enjoyed using the slide, swings, soccer balls and sand-box play. It was very warm in the sunshine which was great after all the days of rain we have had. After returning to the park it was time for Marc’s ‘Show & Tell’. Marc brought out his things in a paper bag for his friends to guess and Tokutaro guessed first time, it was a great book called ‘Teach your child to read in 100 Easy lessons’. DSCF5353Marc read the name on the cover to us and then told us how he reads with Daddy all day, how he learns words, he learns about questions and DSCF5354enjoys the picture work too. He showed his friends a page all about fish in the book and then we saw a card with lots of stickers on it. Marc then told us that when he gets to 100 stickers he will get a “so-so big present”. He told us how he puts the stickers on every day and counted all of those on the card for his friends (39). We were so lucky as Marc then read a passage from the book to all his friends too. There were 5 lines explaining how a little fish sat on a big fish. Finally Marc DSCF5314answered lots of questions form his friends including: “Why do you have animal DSCF5361stickers”? – “Because mommy gave me them like that”, “Why did you bring them all”? – “I read like Sean and I like it” and “When do you read this book”? – “After I brush my teeth”. Thank you Marc it was a great show and tell and you should be proud. Your reading is getting really good. Well Done!

After Marc’s Show & Tell we used the overhead projector to see if our friends could identify lots of animals just from their outline shadows. We each chose a cardboard animal cutout and placed it on the projector to see the shadow on the wall. It was lots of fun and we managed to identify all of them including the difficult Toucan outline which Marc knew. We then used the outline to makeDSCF5319 our own outline with the Lego blocks. We will continue with this tomorrow to see if we can make lots of Lego animals.

Have a great afternoon.

All our love, Darren, Ayaka & Nanako
