Do We Have a Job?
Happy Friday!
For today’s story time, we read what Yu shared on our World Book Day. It is called Still Stuck written by Shinsuke Yoshitake. It was such an interesting story, and we could not help but giggle and laugh while listening to it. We can’t wait to read the rest of the books that our friends shared.
Then, we talked about the book that we are planning to base our presentation on. It’s called The Giant Turnip. Looking at who we have in Flowers, we thought that it would be a good idea to come up with characters that we want to include in the story. Here’s what we came up with:
Sh: Cowboy O:Luigi
Ty and Ko: Ninjas Mi and Y: Dinosaur
Ma: Cat in the Hat
Zo: Turnip
We are not sure what kind of musical play we would be able to present, but one thing is for sure, it would surely be one that we ENJOY DOING. Please look forward to future announcements regarding our graduation party presentation.
SHOW and TELL (Ty and Kr)
Ty brought a world map and photos from their family trip to Maldives. He said, “I fly from Japan to Maldives” (while pointing at them on the map). This is my home, and my home is very close to the beach. This is me snorkeling. I did jet ski with my daddy. I ride the bicycle”. At the end of his presentation, he showed us two videos. He continued, “This is the shark. My mommy took the video. She didn’t know that the baby shark is there”. The other video showed how he was snorkeling on the beach.
Q and A
Sh: It’s so cool!
O: How did you see the shark?
Ko: So cute! How take picture?
Ty: I was on the beach and mommy take the picture.
M: With phone or ipad?
Ty: With her phone
Vieda: How long did it take you to fly from Japan to Maldives? Was it your first time in Maldives?
Ty: I can’t remember but I’m not sleeping on the plane. My first time but for mommy and daddy, second time.
Thank you so much for sharing about your Maldives trip!
Kr shared her favorite song, Johnny Johnny Yes Papa. We played it first and then with Karen’s assistance, Kr tried to say Johnny and Papa. Kr looked happy as she sat nicely in front of the class. Thank you so much for sharing your favorite song with us!
QUESTION of the DAY (Do you have a job?)
We had an interesting discussion about jobs and would like to share them with you!
O: I don’t have a job today. I’m lucky!
Vieda: Am I doing my job right now? (everyone said “Yes”). So, does it mean I am not lucky?
Sh: If you’re not working, then no one will pay you.
Ty: Shelley pays you (Vieda). You have to work super duper hard. You will be rich!
O: If you have so much money then it’s bad. People will ask for money
Yu: Momma has a “colleague”.
Vieda: What are colleagues?
Yu: My mom’s job is calling people. She calls them colleagues.
Vieda: Can I call Cameron my colleague?
Yu: Only if you call him, you can call him your “call-gue”?
(YES, we have a job?)
Mi: Kumon and soroban. It’s hard work!
Ty: Kids actually don’t have work.
Yu: If you don’t get machigae, you get a snack.
Ko: Kumon! I read the kokugo. Kokugo is paper. You need it!
O: Obenkyo. You draw. Something like “M”.
Ty: If I play with Ty, I will get a toy. For grown-ups, we have real jobs.
What are real jobs?
Ty: Like the taxi driver
Mi: Boxing
Yu: People washing plates. When I was little, I helped my mommy wash our plates.
Vieda: What do we call people whose job is washing plates?
O: Mommy!
O: Plant the carrot people
We could not think more of real jobs, so we tried thinking about what our dad’s job is.
M: Jiu jitsu
Mi: Mommy weightlifter
Yu: A doctor
Ty: He makes real golf clubs.
Sh: Help them to find kosher food.
Ko: Shigoto. Daddy make internet.
Yu: He is working.
Oj: My daddy has a small space and he go like this (fingers tapping a computer) and working.
We wondered what other jobs there are. We have started thinking about what we want to be when we grow up. We want to have a job that we like and enjoy because it is something that we are good at. Let’s see how our discussions about jobs unfold and guide us to our dream job!
For our homework, we would like our daddies and mommies to share with us what their job is so Flowers can have ideas about real jobs!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Lots of love,
Flowers
