Happy Earth Day!

Happy Earth Day! We wished that we had more Flowers friends today to celebrate with. We hope to see our friends soon😊Although we had a small class today, we had fun playing and dancing with Maryna even without the lights on!

A part of our Earth Day celebration was to turn off the lights. We knew that we were going to walk in a room where it would be dark. This morning, we were still surprised how different our room was! O asked, “Is it Christmas today?”, while Ko commented, “It’s our party today! Yay!”. Mi enjoyed the tea lights that we had on the tables and said, “I like these lights here!”. Sh was a bit hesitant to use the bathroom at first, but seeing some lights inside made him felt better.

We tried to use the beeswax food wraps that we made. We wrapped some matzah crackers and were surprised how well they wrap around the crackers! We took this home today and we hope that you will enjoy using it as we are so proud that we were able to make an earth-friendly food wrap!

CIRCLE TIME

We had so many things to share about Earth Day. Please read on to find out how our discussion went. We started our discussion by asking how does turning off the lights help our earth.

Sh: It’s Earth Day and we want to save the earth. Electricity is like fire, but it’s hotter. It’s five times hotter than the sun. Hotter than the surface.

Ty: You’ll burn down. Maybe Cameron can touch it.

Sh: The electricity. He can touch it. Electricity is like energy.

Mi: The sun is more hotter because the electricity is so so so hot, but sun is hotter.

Sh: It’s not going to be hot because the people who made it. Inside hotter than the sun. Is earth the closest planet to the earth?

              Zo: Mercury

Sh: Choosing electric. People who are making electric can make more electric.

Ty: If we waste power, power will go down.

With our ongoing conversation, it seemed like checking our book about the solar system can help us see the distance of the earth and other planets from the sun. At the end of our discussion, we tried to understand how we help the earth by turning off the lights. Of course it saves energy and also a good reminder to us to actively take part in helping the Earth each day.

QUESTION OF THE DAY (Are you ready to save water?

We focused on saving water as one of the many ways we can help the Earth. Our teachers were impressed to see that all of us answered YES to today’s question.

Mi: Don’t waste water. Not a lot of water. Because water will be everywhere.

(When brushing teeth)

O: You drink water then spit. I said inside your mouth and then spit.

Sh: Gargle. You put water in your mouth, you gargle then spit.

Y: You cannot waste so many water.

Mi: Don’t waste a lot of water.

              Sh: Close the tap.

Ty: When you’re done washing hands.

Sh: Sometimes I close the water when someone forgets.

Ty: If you take a shower, you cannot turn it on. Oh like, turn it on. I keep it one because I take shower with my daddy. He uses the shower after me, and I use the shower when he’s not using it.

Vieda asked us how we can save water after we used our bathtubs. Sh said that “at home, after we finish using our bathtub, my mom takes out the black circle thing (plug) so the water can go down”. When Ty heard it, he said, “I think the water goes back to the ocean when our mommies do that. Then asked, “Does it?”. Going back to saving water after using the bathtub, we were shown a photo of a washing machine and the tub. Wow, we were surprised to see that water from the tub can be reused as water for the washing machine through a hose. It was such a brilliant idea!

STORY TIME (The Giant Turnip by Risako Uchida)

Today’s story was something that we are very familiar with. We were excited to know that we plan to use this story as our presentation at our graduation party. To begin with our presentation, we had a brainstorming and discussed which characters we wanted to be in the play. Some of the suggestions that came up were young farmers, Mario, Ninja, Sumo Wrestler, Dog, Mouse, Meerkat, Gorilla, and Dragon. We’ll wait for our other friends and ask for their ideas, too. We can’t wait to start working on our musical play this year.  Many thanks to Maryna for starting to practice us for the finale dance number😊

Please enjoy the rest of the day!

Lots of love,

Flowers XOXO
