Wooden Towers and Venetian Masks

When we arrived at school today it was looking a little cloudy and humid. We wondered if we would be able to go to the park and thought it best to go before it started to rain. DSCF7574On the class balcony the water and sand play table was open and we had a great time discovering all the penguins, treasure, starfish and divers below the water and sandy surface. DSCF7590Ava and Lilian were fascinated to see the large real starfish in the classroom and we enjoyed looking for his mouth and then Lilian noticed that he had no eyes. We took our snack with us to the park again and it was great having our snack outside the classroom for a change. Soccer with a tennis ball was very popular today and many of the children spent most of their park time kicking the ball around. DSCF7589Tokutaro tried on a new classroom costume in a Chinese kung-fu style which looked very cool colorful. When we came back from the park we together looked at a book titled ‘A street through time’ which shows in pictorial form how a street transforms from a wooded field a long time ago to a modern street with brick, steel, glass and concrete buildings. We then moved to the table where we found an enormous pile of wooden blocks. DSCF7598We wanted to make our own wooden towers like in the picture book too. We started by choosing one of the larger flat blocks to be the base of our tower. We then started to add blocks and tried to make sure that as we glued them on they would help support the blocks next to them. This was quite difficult at first as we needed to add the blocks carefully and attach them well to help them stand up. When they were all finished we put them together on the cabinet and saw they looked like a bit city silhouette. When they are dry we will take them home. DSCF7599On the second table we continued with our Venetian masks and added lots of jewels to make them look really pretty. DSCF7603Some of us needed to paint the mask first before adding the feathers, sparkly shapes and jewels. They look really pretty too. We completed our lollipop Tokyo Tower model on the paper backing too by gluing on the lollipop sticks and the matchsticks to the paper. Tomorrow we are going to be doing more with bottle caps and will be able to take home our construction work too All our Love, Darren, Ayaka and Sharee
