Happy birthday Sophie

Fridays are our keep fit day and today’s lesson was all about our heart. Jet taught us that you can help your heart work best if you eat healthy food, do exercise and have enough sleep. These are the same things that he taught us when we learned about our lungs. We realize now that these things apply to everything that we do in order to remain strong and healthy and grow optimally in our lives. Thanks Jet! We did some fun things in our KIDFIT class today using black circles, footballs, a tunnel, a hopscotch mat, a soft rolling mat and a balancing tube. We had to stand on the black circles and do some balancing exercises; we worked in partners with the inflatable footballs and had to throw and catch it, roll it to one another and then kick it to one another. The tunnel, mats and balancing tube were used for an obstacle course. We had to walk on the black circles as if they were stepping stones, crawl through the tunnel, hop on the hopscotch mat, roll sideways on the soft mat and walk one step at a time on the blue balancing tube.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA We listened to our hearts pumping blood through a stethoscope. It made such a deep sound in our ears. We also learnt that our heart is in our chest. We were so excited to celebrate our first birthday of 2013 and it was Sophie, who was the lucky birthday princess today. She turned four right at the very beginning of the year and her mum and dad came to celebrate with us at school. Michael, her dad, came with two of her favourite stories; “There’s an alligator under my bed” and “A sausage went for a walk”. He read them to us and we loved listening to them. Then we held hands in a circle and sang “If you’re happy and you know it” and did some of the following actions e.g. stamp our feet, clap our hands etc. Sophie opened her heart string card with her dad and she also wore a special crown that we had all helped make for her. We sang “Happy Birthday to you” and had a delicious feast of cupcakes with special sprinkles on top as well as delicious fruit.

We want to say a big thank you to Sophie and her mum and dad for their generosity and for being with us to share this special occasion.

We added some fun materials to our centerpieces for the Wine Tasting event on Sunday. We used stickers and some of the shapes that we had made with the punches, yesterday. Later on we added some streamer type things that we made. Our friends downstairs also helped us decorate a few as we made five in total.

The last thing that we did today was to complete our “hagoita” and paste the snakes on and then varnish them. Downstairs we had a small class DSCN9047 Croppedand spent part of the morning shopping. We have a new song called “And we’ll go walking down the street, shopping for things to eat”. We took our handbags and cards with pictures of fruit and vegetables on them and off we went. We have a selection of food in a basket which we also use when we go shopping and the other thing which we do is to look at our alphabet chart and then we say what we are going to buy. Tokutaro likes to look at the picture of the yoghurt and then he shops for yoghurt. We also have started changing our “Peanut butter jelly” song and we sing “Peanut butter………cabbage” if we are holding cabbage or “Peanut butter………banana”. We love the song so much and we enjoy it being repetitive. At the activity tables we told our teachers some of the wishes that we wanted them to write on the back of our hearts for Ayaka. Shhhhhhh! It’s a secret! After our KIDFIT class, we went outside to the park where most of the snow had melted however there was quite a bit of ice at the bottom of the large slide, in the sandbox and in some other parts of the park as well. It was sooooo cold for our teachers however we ran up and down with the wagons and the balls and went down the roller slide and the yellow one. We know that it is going to be a big weekend for our school with the Wine Tasting event on Sunday. We wish everyone who is attending, a fun time and we look forward to hearing who bought our big canvasses when we return to school after the weekend.

Love always Shelley, Darren, Nanako, Ayaka, Christine, Goh, Liezel and Sabine.
