Hygiene and hand washing

“Oh what a beautiful morning Oh what a beautiful day

I’ve got a beautiful feeling

Everything is going my way”

It was a beautiful morning with so many different things to do in our classrooms with our teachers and our friends. We started off in separate classrooms and then joined together for the rest of the day because Shelley had some meetings.

Downstairs we started off doing art on two posters. On the posters are black and white copies of our hands which we did last week and yesterday. We pasted the hands onto a large red sheet and a large green sheet of cardboard. Today we pasted strips and pieces of coloured tissue paper on top of the hands. We don’t want to hide the hands but rather use art materials that will make them look different. Now some of them are pink, green, yellow, blue, brown, red, black, peach and white. We will continue working on this art project with our friends tomorrow. We also used sparkly glitter paint on these art works. We helped our teachers squeeze paint on to the pages and then we used our finger tips to spread the sparkly colour on the paper. We were a little concerned about the sticky paint on our finger tips but were really happy that we had a cloth to wipe them on. Our teachers were smiling when we wiped our fingers every time. They think that we need to do more messy activities to learn not to worry about getting dirty or sticky or……..

We also played with play dough and then we went upstairs to do more activities.

Upstairs we started off our day doing patterning at the table. We first did alternate colours e.g. red and blue; then we did red, red, blue, red, red, blue; and then we did red, red, red, blue, blue, blue. We really concentrate when we are doing this kind of activity and love organized things into a specific order. When our friends came upstairs we did another secret activity using stamps and stickers. We were really happy that “someone” was downstairs in meetings so that they couldn’t see what we were doing!

We did a special activity as part of our theme for this month which is the three “H’s”; Health, Hygiene and Halloween. We did hand washing. We used two containers; one with water that became soapy after we rinsed our hands and one with unsoapy water. We learnt that you should spread the soap all the way over your wrist when you wash your hands and also go in between your fingers. We love water and particularly enjoyed the activity today.  We have a fun song “Wash, wash, wash your hands” which we will sing when we do the activity with our friends who come to school on other days.

We read books in the library and Darren read us “Too big for Diapers” again. We love listening to stories over and over again and this one is especially funny to those of us who don’t wear diapers anymore. In our circle time we corrected the date on the “Today is…….” chart and then we danced and sang together. We sang “Ring a ring of roses”, “Head and shoulders, knees and toes” and we did the “Body Rap”. Finn loves this song so much and he knows all of the movements. Well done Finn! While we are resting Finn is going to finish working on the sound “k” and  start learning the sound “e”.
