Easter Hunt and Bees Wax
Happy Thursday! We had an early Easter celebration at Step Park today. Ai shared that “Easter is you sleep, and the Easter bunny comes in the night”. Do you have other ideas what Easter means? Please share them with us tomorrow!
With our recycled socks turned into rabbits, we had an exciting time hunting for our rabbits and eggs! We can’t wait to find out what’s in the eggs😊
CIRCLE TIME
At the beginning of our circle time, Vieda asked us if we could write the letters that make up the word, “earth”. It was quite challenging for us to figure out what letters represent the last sound of “earth”. We tried writing them as “erf” or “ef”. We listened to our teachers and carefully “see” how they said “earth” but still felt we were missing some letters. Then, Vieda gave us a hint about the “th” sound which took our discussion to another direction. We say one tooth, two teeth…how about one foot, two feet? It was fun to think about how the names of things change as they become more in number! In the end, we finally figured out how we write the word EARTH and learned a song that talks about taking care of it. We love the dance moves of this song, too! Here’s the song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lJToF8D9bdU. Enjoy!
Ty reminded us of how his mommy helps the earth at home. He said, “One time I saw lots of cardboard and my mommy turned it into a house. And I saw a big box and Tyler ride and I push it. Yu reacted, “It’s recycle!”. Absolutely fun way to help the earth.
QUESTION of the DAY (Do you know what bees make?)
Before diving into today’s question, we were asked to look at our balcony. When asked what we saw, Yu said, “Sentaku jouhou!” (laundry information). Ma replied, “I’ve never heard of it!”. Yu shared what he thought it meant. He said, “My mommy checks it and then hangs the clothes outside”. Some of our friends who speak Japanese seemed a little confused. Vieda said it could be our homework number 1 to ask our moms and dads (if they speak Japanese) what sentaku jouhou means.
STORY TIME (The Honeybee and Robber by Eric Carle)
As we read the story, we wondered what the queen bee does in the hive.
Ty: The Queen Bee says whatever she says the other bees do it.
Ma: They just rest because they’re the queen. The king says, “Go, bring me the honey”.
O: The Queen Bee have honey and give it. They have the baby and they gonna get bigger and bigger.
We were surprised to hear that the worker bees who are young bees do the work. We looked closely at the hive and the cells that are in it that are made of WAX! We learned that the bees figured out the shape of the cell to ensure that the eggs are secured. Yu said, “Hexagon shape!”. Brilliant bees!
The wax is called bees wax, which we are going to use for our earth-friendly food wraps called bees wax wraps. The pieces of clothes hanging on our balcony will turn into food wraps by using bees wax pellets. We can’t wait to start working on this project! Let’s talk more about bees and the wax they made.
Here's your homework for tomorrow:
(1) What does sentaku jouhou mean?
(2) What is Easter?
Have a restful evening!
Love,
Flowers XOXO
