Sounds Of Nature
Happy Tuesday!
Today was a beautiful sunny day!
On the front table we had a big sheet of paper for drawing on. In the center was a big blue and green circle. We all wondered what it was. A, L and S did a fantastic job of scribbling on the paper surrounding our big globe. This week we are looking at our world in preparation for EARTH day next week.
On the back table we were combining nature with magic sand. There were lots of little shells and the task was to imprint the shells on the ocean like magic sand. H and K were focused on making shell shapes. T worked hard on rolling out the sand so it was very flat, he was very proud of himself.
On the sensory table we had something very interesting and sticky. There was blue and green oatmeal ready to be scooped into cups. This activity got us used to seeing the earth and it helped us with the vital skills of scooping up because we need to be able to do that to eat by ourselves. I, L, N and L spent a long time discovering the oatmeal. They prodded it, squeezed it and scooped it.
At the back of the room we had an exciting sorting activity. There was a blue bucket and a green bucket so that we could sort the balls into each. Y was a superstar at sorting. She was very fast. R helped her with a smile on his face. R delicately collected the balls.
Before we knew it, it was time to clean up and start circle time.
We learnt that Bradon wasn't here today. It is a teacher exchange so Brandon wasn't here and instead we had Vieda, a teacher from Flowers' class. Loki asked her her name.
“My name is Vieda” she said and we all said
“Hello Vieda” we said. Thank you for coming!
Today Lucy showed us a globe, it spun around. We tried to spin around ourselves whilst singing “the earth turns round and round. The earth turns round and round. Once a day every day. The earth turns round and round.”
We were using our listening ears today. We listened to three different sounds. We had the songs of a forest where we tried imagining walking in the forest and the different animals we could encounter.
We listened to the ocean waves and practiced moving our bodies like a wave, up and down.
Then we heard a very noisy sound that made I cover his ears and K said “car!” yes, it was the sounds we hear in the city. We all agreed that we preferred the nature sounds to the city sounds.
We then tried to move our bodies like different elements of nature as we practised some yoga. T did the dog pose and L the butterfly, A loved the “do nothing doll” pose. It helped us calm down and center ourselves whilst appreciating the gifts the earth and nature gives us.
Before we went to the park, Vieda read us a story called "he's got the whole world in his hands” . This story was about our world and the different things that live in it.
At the park today we played with the rings. We practised rolling them and throwing them. Some of us used our imagination to give the wheels a new purpose, LO made a necklace, L a bracelet and K and R were driving a bus. H had so much fun practising walking with his new friend Vieda!
What a great day we had today, we are looking forward to seeing you tomorrow!
Love, Buds
