All the Things That Grow
A lot of things have been growing inside our little classroom. Aside from us growing taller and “sideways”, with our own little hands mixed in with collective love and care, our Buds Tree and Sustainable Little Forest are slowly coming to life.
Our Buds Sakura Tree
The Sakura Linear Art that we worked on yesterday were cut into long strips to resemble LINES. Together with Goh San, we taped these pink strips around our Buds Tree. Some of us had to bend or tiptoe to reach the parts of the tree that needs to be taped on. We also had the opportunity to communicate in order to work smoothly together as we had to coordinate who works on which side.
Leaves Linear Art
Similar to yesterday’s Sakura Linear Art, we had our little fingers working by peeling off white strips of paper from double sided tape. Different shades of green colored “straight lined” objects such as cellophane strips, fuzzy wires, and straws were used to make this art.
Looping Branches, Twigs, & Vine through Straws
It’s the same set of objects from yesterday’s Sensory Play but with a different objective… let’s see which of these objects can easily loop/go through red straws. It was fun working in pairs especially when looping the long, curvy vines or the thick branches.
Peeling off Dried Petals
The petals and stems of the flowers that we gave during Teachers’ Appreciation week has been of great value for our learning through sensory play. The last bouquet has finally dried up and its petals were starting to fall off. Not to miss this opportunity to learn from it, we counted the petals that we peeled off. Using our gentle hands while peeling was vital for the petals not to break or fall of its base all at once. We then pasted the petals on the base of our Sustainable Forest.
Dotted Markers Free Art
It’s amazing to see how our teachers are able to present our artistic and free play inspired art into something “concrete”. Today, a large sheet of paper was laid out on the floor wherein we could freely use the dot markers to make any patterns we wanted. The paper was really HUGE so we had the opportunity to go around it and see how to comfortably position ourselves around it.
Tapping Sticks during Circle Time
In line with our topic on “Lines”, we were each given a wooden stick when we responded with “Here I am! Here I am!” when Erika asks, “Where is X?, Where is X?”. Instead of clapping, we tapped the sticks on the floor to create a melody to go with our Roll Call song. We also balanced, rolled, and rubbed the sticks using our hands.
New Games during Park Time
Aside from our favorite activity of kicking and chasing balls, some of our friends thought of an idea of using our park rope to play a game. A teacher would pretend to “catch fish” with the rope and we would try to chase the “bait” (end of the rope).
We hope you all had a good day!
