Shaving Foam Art

This morning in our Ohana artists class we saw a new game on the small red table which looked like a large green mushroom. It was a group balancing game where you had to roll a dice which had colored spots on it. DSCF7849We then had to look at the color and place the appropriate colored counter on the ‘mushroom’ top without unbalancing it. It was a little difficult but good fun. Darren also had a large cardboard box with some wooden pieces in it and we wanted to help put the mystery object together. First there were 2 pieces which cross at the bottom and then we needed to put an upright pole in the center. DSCF7857We worked in pairs and when we finally screwed the last piece into place we saw it was a clothes stand for our dress up corner. We headed for the park early as we were worried about the rain starting later. As soon as the last of our friends arrived we set off with our snack things with us too. We were very lucky as the weather was quite good and we all sat on the benches to eat together.DSCF7859 We took out he large park chalks and decided to draw some pictures on the wood at the top of the slide. Jessica drew herself, Jeremy drew his father’s car, Ava drew Rapunzel and Toku drew himself as well writing his own name. When we returned from the park we washed our hands and sat in a circle on the carpet. We saw some white paper, some purple paint and a cup of water. We helped rip the paper into small pieces and then added a little water and some purple paint. Using his fingers Darren mashed all the paint and paper in together to make a squidgy colored paper ball. We then took that to the large artwork we started earlier in the week and pressed it onto the artwork. We also tried dabbing with it as well as rolling it back and forth.DSCF7865 Tearing so much paper was quite hard so Tokutaro, Noa and Allie helped us by using a paper shredder to give us lots of small pieces. DSCF7880On the second table we used some shaving foam and watercolors mixed together with our hands directly on the table. It was messy but lots of fun. We could then use our pointer fingers to draw a picture into the shaving foam and when we laid a piece of paper on the top of it we saw it made a beautiful printed piece of artwork. When they are dry we can take them home. All our love, Darren and Nanako
