It's Movie Showtime

DSCF7152Today was the final day of our regular program school year and there were lots of things to do in the classroom. Many of them were new experiences for the children and they helped prepare for a special morning together. On the table there was a small machine which Sharee brought in for us to see and use. It was a popcorn maker and just like the popular books ‘If you give a mouse a cupcake / some popcorn’ in this case the children wanted to watch a movie with their friends. Each of the children had a paper cup to write their name and draw a picture on so we could fill it with popcorn. The children then spooned in a bit of popcorn into the top holder, switched on the machine and watched as amazingly the popcorn poured out of the machine into a bowl. DSCF7151We could then spoon the hot popcorn into our own cups ready for ‘movie time’.Also on the table was a small racetrack with controllers. Instead of race cars there were 2 small grannies in wheelchairs with blankets over their legs. The game is called ‘Granny Racing’ and the children loved it. It was very popular and so we used a timer to let everyone have a chance to play with it. DSCF7149After we had packed away the toys and eaten snack we sat down on cushions and chairs, switched off the lights, got our popcorn and were ready to start watching. As we have been looking at dinosaurs we decided on watching the movie ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ on the carpet area with our friends. The movie tells the tale of an adventurous baby triceratops and his journey to the winter feeding grounds. The children loved the movie and got really involved in the story. We took a break after a while and decided to head for the multi-purpose room for fun and some exercise. We got out the plastic balls, slide and mats and had a great time playing catch. DSCF7161The ball dartboard came down and Tokutaro was so sweet and realized he couldn’t quite reach its hanging place and so began to climb the wall with the dartboard in one hand. Thank you Tokutaro!! Ava then showed her friends how to do ‘handstands’ over the edge of the ball pool. DSCF7170Soon they were all upside down with their heads in the ball pool and looked so funny all lined up. We returned to the classroom and watched the remainder of the movie before singing our goodbye song on the carpet together. It was our last group time together and wish all our friends the best of luck. We will miss them all dearly and hope they come and visit us again soon.DSCF7171 Have a great summer and for those of you attending summer school have a wonderful weekend. All our Love, Darren, Ayaka, Sharee and Rashmi
