Dino Fossils

When the children arrived this morning they immediately noticed the collection of small dinosaur models on the table along with some white paper art clay and some tools. They asked what the things were for and when we showed them the dinosaur fossils in a book they started to understand. DSCF6915They were going to make their own dinosaur fossil using the art clay and small models. First we needed to get the art clay flat and even with the rolling pin but we found it would sometimes be a bit thinner at one end than the other. We got some pieces of wood which were the right thickness and when we put them either side of the art clay and rolled it along the wood it came out very smooth and the same thickness all the way along. DSCF6885We then chose one of the dinosaur models we wanted to use and carefully pressed it into the art clay. We needed to make sure that we only pushed on the models head, neck, legs etc and not on the soft art clay as this made it harder to see the fossilized dinosaur imprint. We carefully lifted the model out of the clay and it left a wonderfully clear imprint which looks just like a fossil. Everyone in the class had a go and we will continue with them tomorrow morning. The easel whiteboard was very popular with the children this morning and it was good to see Adrien and Tomas enjoying themselves drawing freely and sharing so nicely. DSCF6893After cleaning up we headed straight for the park and took our water bottles and snacks with us as it was very hot outside and we hoped to avoid the heat by going early, It was very warm and as soon as we had eaten our snacks on the benches we rushed off to play. After we came back we drank lots of water and set up the chairs to practice our presentation songs for the party on Wednesday. This is getting better all the time with the children singling really well. DSCF6903When we sang the last song and danced to the music there were lots of smiles and laughter. The final activity for the day involved us all moving chairs into a line and playing music. Yes we played musical chairs with our friends. Before we started we explained the rules and how we can’t push or shove our friends to get to the chairs first. It took us several minutes to complete all the children and Jennifer was today’s winner in the class. Well done Jennifer !! All our Love, Darren, Sharee and Rashmi.
