Junk Art Dinosaurs

We had a very active morning today with lots of exercise and play. First thing in the morning Tirza and Yossi saw the dinosaurs the children have been making over the last few days hanging on the walls of the classroom. They were very excited to see the overhead projector light up and project the shadow of their chosen dinosaur projected onto their colored paper. They each carefully traced the outline to the dinosaur on to the paper with a marker. DSCF6563On the main table there were lots of boxes, tubes, containers and pots for the children to make ‘junk-art’ models. Alongside the materials was a dinosaur book with lots of pictures of all kinds of dinosaurs and they soon decided after looking at this what kind of dinosaur they wanted to make. Using lots of tape, paint, markers and paint pens Ava, Allie, Clodia, Blue, Jennifer and Olivia started to construct some wonderful dinosaur models. We will continue making and decorating them next week. DSCF6524Tokutaro and Marc headed for the chess set on the table with the pawns and rooks and soon started a high speed game which Tokutaro won by a narrow margin. Marc looked so happy that he had played so well and was eager to play again. Adrien went to the play kitchen and brought the teachers some food in a pot which he said was “Breakfast”. DSCF6554Thank you Adrien it was delicious. Tirza and Yossi then saw the pinboards and elastic bands which they stretched over the pins to make pictures of bicycle wheels. They had to be a little careful as the elastic bands would sometimes ‘ping’ their fingers but they did really well with this. After snack time we headed for the multi-purpose room and had a great time on the piano, playing with the Lego, climbing the climbing wall and throwing the plastic balls. Yossi and Tirza decided to use the giant ball bag to make a wall and soon Jennifer got some cushions so it looked like two castles facing each other with balls flying back and forwards. Arata meanwhile thought it was great to use the slide and then hop across the cushions.DSCF6548 The weather had cleared up a little and it stopped raining and so we got ready to go outside but the children all heard a big whistle and knew what that meant, yes, we needed to get under the table for our earthquake and fire drill. We headed down the stairs while covering our mouths and lined up at the bottom of the building. DSCF6543When we returned from the park we got our paper dinosaurs down from the walls and used lots of tape, colored pencils, markers and crayons to continue decorating them. DSCF6521They are looking really good and will think of how to complete them in the next few weeks. Have a great afternoon, All our Love, Darren & Ayaka
