Jack-O-Lanterns

Dear Flower Class parents, We hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather. It was a little colder when we arrived this morning and many of us had brought our jackets. On the main table we saw the big orange sheet of paper we have been stamping for the Halloween party this week. Many of us saw the white bat, jack-o-lanterns and witches which we could stick onto the orange backing paper.

It is beginning to look scary with all those bats, spider’s webs and witches on the paper. On the second table we had three activities running; the first was to complete our Halloween containers for the party on Friday to collect lots of goodies in, the second activity was to complete adding our colored sand to the pictures we have been making which looks like seaweed and coral. Also on this table we have ben completing our ‘Thank you’ card for the farmers at the potato digging farm we visited last week. On the carpet area we enjoyed using the kitchen toys and soon pulled out lots of chairs to make a car/ bus to go on a trip together. There was lots of food out and also tablecloths, just like a picnic.

After packing away the toys and eating snack we headed for the park as we knew we would need to come back for our weekly gym class with Miyashita Sensei. We warmed up by stretching and doing our usual balance work and then practiced lots of hopping. First we hopped across two mats, around a chair and back again and then tried hopping in and out of 3 chairs before hopping back again. At the end we played a game called traffic lights where we needed to hop towards Miyashita Sensei if he said ‘Blue’, balance if he said ‘Yellow’ and run away if he said ‘Red’.

We were very lucky to have this week’s ‘Show & Tell’ on a Monday this week. We were shown some beautiful fish. Several of us guessed first from the following; a car, a princess and some things she made. She then showed us how to wet the special paper with her finger and then draw over it with a special marker. They looked wonderful. She answered some questions like “Why do you like it”? and that her grandmother gave it to her. Thanks for a wonderful Show and Tell. In circle time we looked at a book called ‘Halloween Is’ which tells the story of Halloween and has lots of pictures of familiar Halloween images including: bats, black cats, ghosts, skeletons,and pirates (skull & crossbones on a gravestone). We then looked at our big pumpkin and took a vote on which shapes we should use for the eyes. There were 9 of us who liked the star shape for the eyes and we will start to carve the eyes tomorrow and take a further vote on the nose and mouth shape tomorrow too.
