Bones of animals

Happy Friday Everyone! We started our morning playing with our freshly made yellow play dough! Our blue one was getting old and hard so it was nice to have a new batch of soft and smooth dough! We loved using the tools to cut, roll, and mold the yellow play dough. We also started a new art project, our Sweet Potato Drawing! On the table, we had colored pencils, white paper, and a tray of sweet potatoes. We sat down with our teacher and chatted about the potatoes as we explained what picture we were drawing. Some of us drew the potato on the table, and some of us drew a picture about our sweet potato digging at the farm. After we packed away our toys our teachers wanted us to help clean up our Halloween decorations. We searched around the classroom and put away anything Halloween. Now our classroom is cleared out, it’s time to start working on our next set of decorations!

For our circle time today, we started by singing our good morning song. Then we sang the seasons song and remembered what we could see. Colorful flowers in Spring, green grass and trees in the summer, red leaves in autumn, and snow in the winter!

J: Some leaves fall into the water

M: It’s very cold in the winter.

Y: No birthday in November!

To start our discussion about animals, Nimo began by reading us a story, “Please, Mr. Panda” by Steve Antony. The book was about a Panda who was handing out doughnuts to other animals.

Nimo: Which donut would you like?

H: *pointed at the yellow donut*

T: Yellow!

L: Red donut!

M: Green!

The book has many pictures of animals, some animals we haven’t seen before like an Ostrich and Orcas. At the end of the story the Panda gave the Lemur all the donuts because she was the only animal that said the magic word.

M: She say, “Please!”

Rafi: Please and thank you.

The book helped remind us that we need to make sure to say please when we want or need something and remember to say thank you afterwards.

After the story we continued our discussion from yesterday. Nimo got the picture of the bat, cat, and spider from yesterday and asked us if we would like to see their bones. Which we all said yes to.

Nimo: What do you think the bat’s bones look like?

J: It would have wings.

R: I don’t know what it looks like.

Nimo: Where do you think the foot bone is?

M: Here!

Nimo: Do you think the bat has hand bones?

Petals: No!

When we saw the the bones of the bat we were very surprised. We also found the bat’s fingers! Next we took a look at the cat bones.

R: It looks like a dinosaur!

Nimo: Which part looks like a dinosaur?

J: This part *pointed at the head*

R: All the parts look like a dinosaur.

Nimo: What bone is this?

L: I don’t know.

Nimo: This long one is called the tail bone. Do you have a long tail?

Petals: No!

The last picture we looked at was the spider. Before Nimo showed us the “bones” of the spider he asked us to touch our arm. We pinched our skin and noticed the surface is soft and the hard bone is inside. Our teachers taught us that Spider and bugs don’t have skin, instead, their bones are on the outside! We took a look at a picture of a spider that has molted. It was very interesting to see the spider shed the outer layer of its body!

Before we had our snack we played a quick letter game. Nimo would sound out a random letter and if that letter is the letter in our first name, we went to line up for snack time! Many of us are getting very good at recognizing our letter!

At the park we had a great time playing on the big slide, sandbox, and in the green area with our buds friends!

Thank you all for another wonderful week! Have a great weekend and see you all again on Monday!
