Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Friday everyone! Hope everyone had a wonderful evening yesterday! We started our busy morning getting ready for our special Thanksgiving lunch! We didn’t cook real food, but we made a turkey and pumpkin pie craft to decorate our table! For our pumpkin pie, we sat down with Evita and pasted lots of orange tissue paper on the paper plate. Then we added strips of brown paper on top and added some cotton balls as marshmallows on top! With Nimo, we sat down and used our tiny fingers to stick the hard end of the feather into the holes that were in the body of the turkey. We each were asked to do 5 feathers, but some of our friends liked the activity so they did more than five! When we were finished, we had a beautiful turkey with lots of fluffy, colorful feathers! We also sat down with Sayaka to finish up our Firefighter card! Now we were ready for our Thanksgiving lunch, we packed all of our toys away and got ready for Maryna’s dance class! We practiced our dances for the show and then gathered into a circle to talk about Thanksgiving:

Nimo: Do you remember the big bird people eat in America for Thanksgiving?

Y: Turkey and pumpkin pie!

Nimo: That’s right yesterday, people in America had turkey and pumpkin pie, what did you eat for dinner?

Y: Chicken!

R: I ate pizza and chicken.

M: Chicken and corn.

A: Ice cream.

M: I like ice cream too!

Thank you all for sharing what you had last night! Before we talked more about Thanksgiving, Nimo read us a story that one of the moms in Petals Class made for us. The story was called, “A Thanksgiving Story” by A. The story started in England where there was a king who made lots of rules that people didn’t like.

Nimo: Do you know what a “king” is? They are like the boss.

Y: Lion king!

The people were so sad and angry with the king’s new rules, the Pilgrims decided to leave England and head for America where they could make their own rules. They spent a long time on the boat and finally made it to America! The Pilgrims were happy to finally get off the boat, but bad news came quickly. The seeds the Pilgrims brought from England didn’t work in the new soil. They tried very hard to grow their vegetables, but nothing grew. The Native Americans saw the Pilgrims having trouble so they shared some of their seeds and taught them how to grow vegetables. Soon the Pilgrims had solved their food problem and the Pilgrims were very thankful for the Native Americans. To repay them, the Pilgrims cooked a lot of food and invited the Native Americans to have a big party! This was the start of Thanksgiving.

Nimo: In the story, the Pilgrims were thankful for the Native Americans because they taught them how to make food. With no food, everyone would be hungry and get sick. Just like how we all say, “thank you” when someone helps us, the Pilgrims wanted to thank the Native Americans. Now Petals, what are you thankful for?

L: My toys, because they are fun.

Y: I am thankful for my home! I like my warm bed!

Y: Mama and Papa, they give me food.

A: Mommy, she cook for me.

M: Thank you to mama because I like broccoli

E: Thank you to Ultraman because he is strong

M: Rhino toy, because I don’t have. Maybe Santa buy because my mommy says I have too many toys. Say thank you to Santa.

R: Toys because they are so fun.

A: My toys because I like toys.

S: A! She helps me.

R: T. T daisuki.

T: (Say thank you to) E and Mommy.

After we shared who and what we were thankful for, we ate our lunch and then got ready for the park. Before we left for the park we helped our teachers set up the tables in a special way for our Thanksgiving Lunch! We connected all the tables together to make one big table, then put the pumpkin pies and turkey on the table for decoration! We had fun at Step Park then we went back to school to have our Lunch Feast!

Thank you all for another fabulous week, have a great weekend, and see you all again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
