Potato digging

Good afternoon everyone!

After we finished our morning jobs, we started free play time. Today, we had Marjorie to help us in Petals Class!

After our morning free play time, we gathered for today’s circle time. We sang the “Good Morning” song and two Halloween songs. We are so excited for our Halloween party so we love singing the songs.

Sayaka showed us a sweet potato that we got from sweet potato digging. Then we talked about the wonderful time we had at the farm,

Sayaka: Where did we get this?

M: Potato digging.

A: From the farm.

R: Ohana!

Sayaka: Yes! That’s right. *Then she pointed at the sweet potato.

I: Very dirty.

Sayaka explained that the dirt is a blanket for the sweet potatoes.

Sayaka: Sweet potatoes need dirt to cover themselves. To grow bigger and bigger…they need dirt. Also, they need water. Do you remember we just learned about water? Sweet potatoes need water to grow.

R shared his great observation.

R: Mine has no beard…

Sayaka: Yes! R, good looking eyes! Look, here is the root. As we drink water, potatoes drink water, too. They use here to drink.

R: That has no root.

Sayaka: I want to ask, did you already eat your potatoes? Did you see your mommy or daddy cook?

M: Me. Daddy cooking. Big one. He cut and then fire. Two glass and turn it. Turn upside down.

A: Mine has no dirt because my mommy cooked it.

Sayaka: Let’s see…what is the color of sweet potato?

M: Purple.

A: Purple.

R: I don’t like potatoes, but I like chicken.

A: Hmmm…

M: Purple.

Sayaka: You all are right. Then do you know the color of the inside? Shall we cut and see the inside of the potato?

R: You need to wash it. (Because of the dirt)

Nimo helped us to cut it and Sayaka asked what the color was…

M: White.

M: Yellow.

A: White.

Then Sayaka asked us to put the potatoes from biggest to smallest. We counted how many potatoes we had, we counted 10 potatoes.

I pointed at the tiny baby potato.

A volunteered to start.

M chose the next one, “This one!”

It looked great! Thank you Petals Class!

Sayaka planned one more activity, but we didn’t have enough time. So, she just read a book for us. It was, THERE WAS AN OLD LADY WHO SWALLOWED SOME LEAVES! By Lucille Colandro, illustrated by Jared Lee. The series are always fun and we enjoyed having story time.

After that, we had snack time. “Are we going to the park?” This is our favorite question. And yes, we had so much fun at the park. We could see the beautiful sky and “smell the fall season” Just before we headed to the park, Marjorie read another book for us, thank you Marjorie!

Thank you all for another wonderful day! Hope you all have a great evening and we will see you all again tomorrow!

Ps, We got special biscuits today, It is from the I Family, the owners of the sweet potato farm. Please, enjoy your biscuits!

Love,

Petals
