Dinosaur Nose and Teeth
Good morning everyone! We just had a blast today with the following activities. It was beneficial for all of us to have these activities as to get to know more of our theme topic for this month.
Painting (Continued Art)
We worked really hard to paint on our dinosaur parts and tomorrow, we’ll get more details done on our project.
On the other table, there was a water and bubble play with dinosaurs. We certainly enjoyed making our dinosaurs clean with detergent soap and one of our friends was so kind to clean the table by wiping it off with rugs.
Sensory Art Where They Used the Lego blocks
Some of our friends got so creative to use the sensory table and included some toys to create a vehicle that could move around the sand with the dinosaur figurines. The Lego blocks on the carpet area were quite popular and we created our buses and some towers with our friends. We also couldn’t help but cook more food at the kitchen area. We had our food bonanza and made some yummy recipes that we offered our friends and teachers.
Circle time
First, we started moving our bodies as warm-up exercises for our class. It also created more of a structure for us to gather and make sure that we are more aware of what’s going to happen next. Then, we practiced our breathing exercises that can calm ourselves down. We used the small container to do our “Good morning song”. The small blue container went around the class and when it reached our heads, we had to say our names.
While doing the song, the dinosaurs came out of John’s jacket. Terry the Triceratops and Harry the Tyrannosaurus Rex said hi to us. They were very friendly and not scary at all. We also learned that they were good friends and loved to play. Today, we also continued what Erika talked about yesterday. She included some facial parts on the dinosaur like eyes, horns, and mouth. However, we haven’t talked about putting on the nose. So, we decided to put three noses on our special dino and we did this by drawing using our markers. We’ve got two round noses and one long nose. John asked, “What do you call an animal that has a long nose?” One of our friends said, “Elephant!” Before, we learned that a giraffe has a long neck and this time our dinosaur has a long nose just like the trunk of the elephant. We definitely learned something new each day and we’re excited to see how our dinosaur becomes a 3-D figure. We can’t wait for it! After our drawing, we all got up because most of us wanted to move and explore the whole classroom so we pretended to be like dinosaurs again and moved just like them. Actually, we didn’t only move in the carpet area but also the whole classroom was all included in the activity. We loved experiencing the whole place and it was amazing to make our learning the natural way.
John picked up his guitar again and started singing, “Go back to the carpet! Goba ck to the carpet! Go back to the carpet, everyone!” So, we all sat down again and heard a loud shriek from one of the dinosaurs. It was actually Harry. He said that he got an ouchie and his friend Terry bit him with his long sharp teeth. Of course, it can make someone cry and it’s not a good feeling if someone bit you especially when you’re playing together. So, our teacher asked, “Can you use your mouth to bite your friends?” Everybody replied, “No, thank you!”. So, John made a follow-up question, “So, what can we do with our mouth to make our friends happy?” He suggested, “Maybe we could use our mouth to blow a kiss, or blow a wind out or actually kiss our friends”. Hence, we all stood up and began singing, “Skidamarink” song which was everybody’s favorite song because some of parts of it got actions that could make our friends feel better around us. In the end, the dinosaurs did well because Terry apologized to Harry and they hugged each other.
After that, we sang our Train song and lined up for washing hands. It was really nice to see our friends do many wonderful things in the classroom. Well done everyone.
Before going to the back, we read a book called “Spot’s birthday”. We just love to read this book. It was amazing to keep us focused and guessing the animals who were hiding from him. After the story, we sang more songs like Itsy, bitsy spider and One little finger. Our teachers felt that we’re all calm and ready to go out so we walked towards the area where we had our shoes. All of us were very keen on what’s going to happen next, so it was also great to see how everyone was waiting patiently for the right time.
On the way to the park, it was very cold and the breeze kept on blowing. It made us giggled and just loved to feel the breeze on our faces. At the park, we got on the swing, slid down the big and blue slide and explored the sand pit with our tiny hands.
It was time to go back to school. We walked very well and stopped when the road was quite busy. At the end of our journey, we were able to put our shoes, smocks and jackets away. We loved the fact that we were so good at routines now. Our teachers are becoming more relaxed in terms of guiding us with our responsibilities because we already knew what we were doing.
Before having our lunch, we gathered again at the library area and found a way to learn a new concept on what we could do with our dinosaur project. We realized that Terry used his big teeth on biting Harry. So, John actually told us, “When do we need to use our teeth?” Some of our friends said, “For food and biting!” “Can we use our teeth to bite our friends?” and we all replied, “No, it’s not okay!”. We showed to our teachers our teeth. Our friends said that their teeth are yellow and white. So, we all looked in the mirror and saw our smiles with really white (sometimes yellow) teeth. We even counted our own teeth. Some of us said, it’s ten. Others said, it’s eleven. We counted the number eleven with our fingers. However, we only had ten fingers and we realized that eleven is actually bigger than ten. Tomorrow, we think that Chiaki will talk about putting on some teeth on our dino. We are excited on putting more on our special project. We’re sure that it’s going to be a massive work of art. Thank you so much and have a great day! See you all again tomorrow.
Lots of love,
