Friday starts with "f"

Fantastic Friday is one of the names that we have for our Friday’s at Ohana. Sometimes we call it Fabulous Friday, Fitness Friday; Feasting Friday etc. We always look for words that start with the letter “f” as this is the initial sound in the word “Friday”. We play many games during the day where we use the initial sounds of words and this has been a great way for us to learn many of the sounds of the letters in the alphabet.

DSCF1317Today was our last KIDFIT class teaching us about our skin so we revised everything that we had previously learnt. We need to be extra cautious with our skin when we go outside as the weather has become a lot warmer and the sun is quite strong. Some of us had pink cheeks when we came back from the park. Our teachers will add a reminder in the email for today to send a hat and sunscreen for us to leave at school. Our time in the park was filled with sun, fun and water. We filled buckets and many other containers with water from the tap and brought the water back to the sandbox. You can see from the photos here today how happy we were.

During the morning we had fun with Liezel, Nanako and Shelley while playing with a few construction toys. We built a fantastic slide using the “Ampaman” construction toy and then we used some of the Lego pieces and built with them too. Of course we spent time in the dress up area cooking and preparing food. We usually always dress up and today, was no different. Tokutaro wanted to wear the Spiderman suit and the rest of us played and worked in our regularDSCF1316 clothes.

Zachary completed his gift for his mum for Mother’s Day and we looked through magazines and are trying to improve our cutting skills. We are trying to remember how to actually hold a pair of scissors; placing our thumb in the circular part and two fingers in the other space. The other thing that we are trying to do is keep our thumb facing up to the ceiling. We tend to twist our arms rather than turn the paper, when we are cutting. Our teachers are also observing our skills a little more at the moment in order to be well prepared for the Parent/Teacher conferences on Friday next week.

Upstairs Sofia and Ava were so excited to see paint pots on the table, when they arrived at school. They started painting birds OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAwith their fingers and had so much fun. They first referenced birds in books before they started painting so that they could select which one they really liked. When they had completed painting, they then took markers and drew in the birds’ eyes and beaks. On the Lego wall we used the house Lego and tried to use up all of the pieces.

In our story time upstairs we read the book “One Duck Stuck”. We had a very interactive story and discussion about birds and what we know about them. FJ – they have sharp claws, big eyes so that they can see in the dark; Sophie – they have sharp beaks; Ostriches can’t fly because they are too big; Ava – they have two legs and eat mice; Sofia – they have feathers; Beckett – they can fly and eat clouds; FJ – some eat bread; Nico – they have two wings; Sofia – baby birds are called chicks; FJ – they live anywhere, inOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA a nest; Beckett – they can live in Thailand; Ava – they live in trees. We also spoke about the sounds the birds make and they are in fact they are unique to each type of bird. Ava said that birds say “quack”; FJ said that owls go “ooh, ooh”; Sophia said that little chickens say “pi pi”; Beckett said that crows say “caw, caw” and Sophie also said that roosters say “cock a doodle doo”. We are really OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAenjoying learning about birds and there are so many interesting facts to know about them. Thanks for a “Fun Friday”.

Love always Shelley, Darren, Nanako, Ayaka, Christine, Goh, Liezel and Sabine.
