Mother's Day breakfast

We want to say a big thank you to our mums for coming to school to celebrate Mother’s Day with us this morning. It was such fun having breakfast together at school with them, preparing the toast or pancakes and enjoying something different in our classrooms.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAUpstairs we helped mix the batter for the pancakes and added two eggs, some water and milk to the pancake mixture. Our menu for our mums was tea or water to drink; pancakes with lemon juice and sugar, sliced bananas, strawberries and blueberries. It was a feast and we think that our mums really enjoyed this special morning with them. We presented them with our gifts which were a key ring, the inside of which we drew and designed last week together with a photo of ourselves as well as a bracelet or necklace which we made last week as well.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We welcomed Miya back from her long lovely holiday in Australia. She said that she enjoyed swimming there and having fun in the sun with her brother Liam and her mum and dad. When we went to the park, Miya initiated the game “Hide and Seek” with Sofia and we all joined in to play it. Noa had a turn to count and face the tree while we all went to hide. We then went on the slide together and it was a beautiful time with everyone.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn the library we read “One Duck Stuck” and another book with animals in it that you can touch and feel. During circle time we learnt about the names of animals that are babies. With people there is a mum and a dad and we are the children; either a boy or a girl. With animals they have different names too e.g. baby ducks are ducklings; baby hens are chickens; baby swans are cygnets; baby lions are cubs; baby birds are chicks; baby dogs are puppies; baby cats are kittens etc OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

We continued making birds out of clay however we need them to dry first before we work on them a little bit more.

Downstairs, we welcomed our mums to our classroom and took them to the breakfast table for their Mothers’ Day breakfast. Our menu was quite extensive: toast, cheese, jam, tuna mayonnaise, corn mayonnaise, tea, water and love. After breakfast, we sat together and sang. We stood and held hands in a circle and gave suggestions about what actions we can do. We stamped our feet, we OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAjumped, we hopped, we clapped our hands, we blinked our eyes, we nodded our heads etc. Then we sang our ‘Hello’ song and all of our mums learnt how to sing their names as well. Then we asked everyone to name two of their favourite foods and we sang our song e.g. Mayuki sushi and fruit; Maryna likes shabu shabu and mango; Frances liked blueberries and toast etc. We laughed when we learnt what everyone liked to eat. Then we sang two echo songs. The one was called “I am special” and the other one “Copy Cat”.DSCF3022

We gave our mums their gift which is a placemat that we made for them. We tried to draw them and then answer questions about them like “What is their favourite colour” “What is their favourite food?” Many of the answers that we gave were related to ourselves.

We read books in the library and we packed them away before we had our snack.

DSCF3013We had fun in the park and were well protected with sun screen. We hope that our mums will send hats for us soon so that we can be even better protected when we go outside.

Love always Shelley, Darren, Nanako, Ayaka, Christine, Goh, Liezel and Sabine
