Happy Birthday Zachary

Happy Birthday Zachary! Today Zachary turned two years old and we had a great time with his mum and dad, celebrating together. Carmen and Zac arrived early this morning and spent time with us while we did our regular chores. They chatted with us and our teachers and saw what we do at school in the mornings, when we arrive. We had fun during free play time OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAand after we had packed away, we sat in the library and read books. Our classroom is now looking quite different as our teachers moved the tables into the front part of the room so that all the toys, home corner and library are in the back part. They wanted us to spend more time using the Lego wall and Chalkboard wall and all the amazing new features that were designed for our school. We love looking at books and were so excited because Carmen had brought with her a collection of books that she was going to read to us. She chose two books; the one was a pop-up book called “There was an old lady who swallowed a fly”. We loved seeing the characters in the book come alive as they popped up; we saw the old lady and all the insects and animals that she ate. We think that she ate way too much and she was lucky that she ended up being taken care of in the hospital; she had an operation after she ate a horse and then she decided to eat fruit and vegetables. She became a vegetarian which was a good thing; now all the animals didn’t have to worry about her eating them anymore.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAThe second book that she read to us was called “Everywhere Babies” and when Carmen asked us whether any of us had baby brothers or sisters, we realized that Zachary is the only child in our class who has a baby. Zachary has a baby sister. The books were beautiful books. Then we stood up and sang some songs for Zachary’s birthday. We sang “When you’re happy and you know it”; “Three little candles”; “Happy Birthday to you” and we also ended up singing our “Hello” song. We sat together for snack time and Zachary blew out his birthday candles and we ate delicious oatmeal cookies and crackers and cheese. We want to say a big thank you to Zachary and his family for their generosity and for being with us to celebrate at Ohana.DSCF1152 Upstairs we took three colours of tissue paper viz. red, yellow and peach and held them in front of our eyes. We could almost see through them however they were not completely transparent. We could see our friends’ faces; the lights on the ceiling and many other things in the classroom. Then we blew them into the air and watched them as they floated down. We actually tried to keep them afloat by blowing them into the air as they came down, but this was quite challenging. We then tore the tissue paper into strips and we pasted them onto the large canvas we love what it is looking like even though it was quite a sticky job.During free play time, we played with the Kinex construction DSCF1138kit and even though we knew what to do with the pieces, it was great to play with them after a long time. FJ was extremely creative with some of the wheels and long sticks. She joined the sticks together and then attached wheels on both ends and made dumbbells, just like people use when they are in the gym. Some of us worked on our 3D creatures today; Sean completed his sea horse, Jenny completed her starfish and Noa completed her angel fish. In the park we enjoyed playing soccer with Aiden and Yuko; and we looked like real soccer players in our vests with numbers on them. In the library we read the book “Edward and the pirates”. We are coming to the end of April and DSCF1155our themes for this month, which has been an exciting time of learning for all of us. We are looking forward to the new month starting next week and celebrating Mother’s Day with our moms at school and many other fun events with our friends, teachers and families. Love always Shelley, Darren, Nanako, Ayaka, Christine, Goh, Liezel and Sabine.
