Shake, shake, shake the milk!

Welcome Wednesday! We were a little sad it was so wet outside today because everyone wanted to go to the park, but out teachers made sure we had plenty of fun indoors! We started our morning finishing up crafts and reading the books our friends brought for World Book Day! Maryna came again to practice our Mom’s Day dance with us! We also did a super fun and extra silly dance, we all had a great laugh! After our dance lesson, we practiced our Mommy song and used our nice singing voices! S led our “Good Morning Song” as she pointed to each of our friends and sang, “What is your name?”.

We started our circle time reading a story from our World Book Day collection. Today, we read Y’s book, “Leo: A Ghost Story” by Mac Barnett and Christian Robinson. The book started by talking about how most people can’t see ghosts. We can see Leo, but the other people in the book can’t see him.

B: No Leo…

N: Can you see ghosts?

M: No, it’s too scary. I have ghost friends, but I don’t like real ghosts.

Leo lives in a big house all by himself until a new family moves in. Leo is excited and prepares Tea and Toast, but the family was very scared. Leo decided to leave and become a roaming ghost. He wanted to visit the candy store he used to go to so he went and asked for directions.

R: Nobody can see him, because he’s a ghost.

T: *Points at the police officer in the book* Police Officer!

A: She can’t see Leo.

L: I can see Leo!

Then Leo met Jane, a girl who could see Leo. Jane thought Leo was one of her imaginary friends and the two played together. Leo was a little worried about what would happen if Jane found out he was a real ghost, not an imaginary friend.

M: He’s sad…

Y: There is a dog there.

After playing some more, Jane went to bed, and Leo went to the living room to do some drawing. Then someone came sneaking into the house.

T: Bad guy!

Leo put a white cloth over himself and chased after the thief and scared him into the closet. The police arrived and took the bad guy away. Jane found out Leo was a ghost and was thrilled he wasn’t just an imaginary friend!

It was quite a long story, but our friends all sat nicely and quietly with their good listening ears! For our next part of our circle time, we learned a little more about dairy products. We reviewed what dairy was and did another experiment. We put a little bit of milk inside a clear bottle and shook it as hard as we could. We poured it out on a plate and didn’t notice much of a change other than some bubbles. Then our teachers poured a thicker milk into a clean bottle. They bought two bottles of water and opened it today and pour the water into their water bottles and let it dry. We shook the bottles as hard as we could! Our teachers set a timer for 20 seconds and we had to try our best not to stop shaking until the timer beeped! It was quite a work out for our arms! After a ton of shaking we noticed it was making a sloshing sound anymore. A few more shakes later we could see inside the bottle and we were surprised to see it wasn’t milk anymore! It looked a lot like play doh, Nimo got a little bit out and let us look and smell it, it was nice!

Nimo: What is Dairy again?

R: Milk!

A: Ice cream.

Y: Cheese!

E: Butter!

To our surprise, we just made some butter! All we did was shake the bottle as hard as we could and the cream turned into butter! Our teachers opened the bottle up and wrapped the butter with saran wrap and cooled it in the refrigerator while we are our snacks.

R: I want to take this home!

A: I want to put it in my turkey sandwich!

R: Can we put it on pizza?

M: I want to put it on toast!

S: Bread!

After our snacks we had Gym Class! We did lots of stretching and simple workouts to make our bodies stronger. We played a game where we crawled on our tummies like a crocodile and raced to get the letter our teachers said. It was a fun activity to review our letters!

The butter was ready around the time we finished lunch. We took a look into the refrigerator and saw little chunks of butter wrapped up and ready for us to take home! Moms and Dads, please don’t leave them in our backpacks too long or it will melt!

Hope you enjoy your butter! Have a wonderful evening and we will see you again tomorrow!

Love,

Petals
