Welcome to our new friend

Dear Flower Class parents, Today we welcomed a new friend to Flowers Class. She is very welcome and she settled very quickly into the classroom activities and routines. This morning on the table we saw lots of ocean creatures such as fish, dolphins, penguins, sea horses and starfish. Next to them were two big containers of water we could use to put the creatures in to play. We also used the sea creatures to look at and draw. We used white paper and today used some big wax pastels to draw whichever se creature we wished. We added some green seaweed too. On the second table we continued with our sports day pom-poms. To finish them we saw a comb on the table. Last week we used our hands to split the plastic strips but the comb meant we could split the pieces a lot finer today. Once they were combed really fine we attached an elastic band with some tape so that we could put them on our wrists at the Sports Day next week. On the carpet area the toy cars were also popular with many of us rolling them across the carpet area. There were some construction toys called ‘zoob tubes’ which join together and some of us joined lots together to make glasses and robots. In the class library the book gifted by Kenichi’s mother and father at his birthday party last week was very popular with many of us listening in to the story as Ayaka read it to us. After packing away the toys and eating snack we headed for the park. It was just right outside with it not being too cold or hot. We played in the netted area playing ‘What’s the time Mr.Wolf’ with our friends. We looked after our new friend and enjoyed playing on the climbing frame and bars together. As soon as we returned from the park we had our weekly gym session with Miyashita Sensei. We warmed up by stretching and jumping and then practiced our front roll on the mats. In circle time we talked all about water and what we could do with water as well as where we might see it. Here is a list of our ideas: Drinking, swimming pool, fish live there, dolphins live in the water, there is seaweed and salt in the water, whale sharks live there and sea water is salty. The teachers had 2 cups of water, one of them fresh water the other salt water. We tried to tell the difference by looking at it but it was no help. We then dipped a finger in both cups and tasted them afterwards to tell the difference. We looked at the globe and saw lakes and oceans and then saw that the lakes contain fresh water while the sea contains salt water. We then wondered about where else we see water and came up with the following: At the beach, in bottles, in the pool, in the sink, in the fish tank and in the toilet. The teachers then asked if there was water anywhere else such as in our bodies and when we looked at our friends eyes we could see water across our eyes and then we moved to the mirrors where we could see the water mist when we breathed in and out on the glass.

Have a great afternoon and we look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.

All our love, Darren, Ayaka, Maki and Ryoan.
