Our Contemporary Art
It was such a lovely day today and it was the perfect temperature for us to go and play in the park. Part of our time in the park was spent with us having the entire space to ourselves. Just towards the end of our park time, some children came from another school and then we decided to go back to school. We read a really funny book today called “The Enormous Crocodile”. Hana said: “That’s not fair” as we read the story. Manuel said: “He can’t do that”. We all were a big surprised because he lived in a muddy river, with other animals in the jungle and he wanted to eat a child for lunch! That does sound silly, don’t you think so? Well, the other animals in the jungle didn’t like him at all and when he disguised himself as a tree, the elephant warned the children and they ran away.
We only read the first part of the book because it is a really long story; so when we come back to school on Monday, we will read some more of it.
We used the kitchen area once again as a store and as you can see from the
photo, Miyu was the shopkeeper and she was selling food. She sold mostly pizza and some other food. We really enjoy playing shop so on Monday we are going to set up a shop together with our teachers and talk about all the things that we need and want in out shop. Our teachers already found some boxes which we will use as shelves and we will stack them with things that we can buy and sell.
At the activity tables, we did our final finishing touches to our art work. Hisami sat with us helping us make circular shaped rings using newspaper and coloured tissue paper. We chose a colour of tissue paper, rolled it along the length, squeezed it and then twisted it. The last thing that we did was attach both ends together so that the tissue paper or newspaper looked like a circle.
You can see on our faces that we were concentrating really hard as we were working on our task. We glued the rings all over the painting when we were
finished making them.
At the second table, we sat with Shelley and spoke about what we look like; on the top we have a head; what is on our faces; what is underneath our head; what is underneath our neck etc. We drew pictures of ourselves paying attention to detail and then Shelley cut them out. We pasted them onto our painting and here are some pictures of how they look. We will all get a piece of the painting inside our workbooks/portfolios; we will each get one
with our drawing of ourselves on it.
And here is what the finished painting looks like……………
In one of our circle times, we played the most amazing game. We told you the other day that when we were doing our roll call, Shelley teased us and asked if “Buzz Lightyear was at school”; then she said: “Is Cinderella here?” and she went through many of our favourite characters but of course, they were not at school. So she created a variation on that theme, and asked us what animal we would like to be. She went all around the circle and we all gave the name of an animal. Then she asked us what food we love to eat and we named different foods. The last category was clothing. We named different clothing and then there was going to be more fun. We tried our best to remember all the things that we named and then we
went all around saying them e. g. The giraffe wearing a
T-shirt ate noodles (William B), the tiger wearing shorts ate a tomato (Daiki), the bunny wearing a cardigan ate broccoli (Lanah), the sheep wearing pants ate a carrot (Luka), the monkey wearing jeans at rice (Taiyo), the cat wearing pyjamas ate a banana (Liezel), the dinosaur wearing shoes ate pasta (Manuel), the pig wearing a hat ate cabbage (Hana), the guinea pig wearing socks ate an apple (Akari), the dog wearing a dress ate a peach (Miyu), the elephant wearing a scarf ate cheese (Hisami) and the frog wearing undies ate an avocado (Shelley). We laughed so much and our teachers were amazed at how many of them we remembered. We showed
them that we have really good auditory memory.
You know how much we love to dress up every day; butterfly or fairy wings being the top of our popularity list at the moment. We spent time playing the Spotty
Dogs game while wearing our wings.
We want to wish all of our friends and their families a great weekend and next week is the last week in May…..and soon it will be June, Summer School and then vacation time. We love all of our friends and teachers in Petals Class.
Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel
