Wilberforce on Wednesday

A gorgeous sunny day greeted us as we head into the middle of this week. Wonderful Wednesday, Whacky Wednesday, William’s Wednesday or maybe Wilberforce’s Wednesday…..whatever Wednesday it is, we had a great time with our friends and teachers. You may be wondering why the name Wilberforce came into our vocabulary. Well, we read a book at story time called “Wilberforce goes shopping”. It was about a bear who went shopping OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

with his grandparents; and the “w” for “Wilberforce” is the same “w” as Wednesday and William. We had an interesting discussion about shopping and who goes shopping in our family. Miyu told us: “When papa is at the office, I go shopping with my mum and papa is not at the office, I go shopping with my mum and papa.

William L said: “I go shopping at Peacock”; Hana said: “I go shopping at Nationaru” (which our teachers think is National Azabu) We like going shopping with our parents and when we are at school, sometimes we go shopping with our teachers and friends.

In the photos, you can see some of the things that we did today. We are still working on our large group art

work and did two things on it today. We traced our hands on newspaper and then cut them out. We used our dot markers to decorate them and then chose a place on the large painting, where we wanted to paste ours. While some of us were doing this activity a few of us were pasting the tiny little hearts, teddy bears, stars, suns, flowers and trees onto the art work. We also

wanted to stick the negative shapes on, which we had cut out yesterday. You can see from the photo that it is a true work in progress that is becoming a wonderful contemporary art work.

Our plan tomorrow is to use black yarn and paste it onto the art work in swirly shapes. We will use longish pieces of yarn, dip them into white glue and then attach them. Our teachers think that the painting

already has many colours on it so we need a contrasting colour to complete it. We forgot to tell you that when we pasted our hands onto the art work today, instead of just telling us to pat our hands down onto the paper, Shelley said: “Give yourself a high 5” and we gave our hand on the art work a “high 5”!

We practiced singing our Japanese song about seeds becoming fruit and vegetables. We also completed our

calendar and chose cloudy for the weather. We are glad that it was not raining today so we could go outside and play in the park, on all of the equipment. We spoke about whether we could go to the park if it is raining, and Lanah said: “We can’t go on the slide when it is wet”. William L said: “I have a blue raincoat I can wear”. When it is raining, maybe we can go onto the Discovery Deck in our raincoats and play there. We won’t need to water the plants because the rain will

water the plants, so we can just play in the rain. During free play, we used the peg boards on the small white table. This time, we could choose whichever picture we wanted for our pegboard and placed it underneath the transparent plastic board. Akari really enjoyed making different designs, choosing the dog and the helicopter for hers. Many of us spent time dressing up, wearing high heels and filling hand bags

for our shopping sprees and when we went to the office. Whenever we are playing and our teachers need us to come to do an activity, we take all of our belongings with us. Our teachers have been reminding us to take our name cards and place them on our toys so that our friends know whose toy this is.

Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel
