My Favorite Pet

This morning was nice and warm and many of us came into the classroom with big beaming smiles after the weekend. On the carpet were many Montessori materials including the cube puzzle as well as the counting / measurement sticks. Marc, Jennifer and Tokutaro all used the blocks and arranged them in the correct order to show the increased size and comparison. On the table we continued our ‘pets’ theme by working on our tropical fish picture that we started last week. Today we mounted our origami paper fish onto some blue paper and added wiggly eyes to them. We also saw lots of sparkly paper, green tissue paper, stickers and some plastic to the fish scene. We will add some blue water plastic to the front of the picture this week. The pictures are looking really special; please take a look if you get the chance, Thanks. On the main table Jennifer and Alexis helped decorate the giant crocodile by firstly cutting some green crepe paper into pieces and then using glue and brushes we attached the paper to the crocodile. It will only be a short time and it will be completely covered. On the small games table Marc, Toku and Nile used the memory game where we need to take off the caps on a board and remember the pictures underneath to match them. After packing away the toys and having snack we went to the park where we had a lot of fun using the slide with our teachers and friends. We got together in line and used the slide like on a train together with our friends. We only had a short time to play as we needed to get back to school for our Monday gm class with Miyashita Sensei. Today in gym class we warmed up with some jumping and stretching and then listened for the whistle to freeze while walking or running. We then jumped like rabbits, hopped and skipped. We then made 2 lines and using the floor mats and cushions we did a forward roll and then jumped as well as hooped around the cushion and then back to our starting point. We the played a listening game which we did actions to depending on the names called out e.g. Miyashita sensei called out “Mikan” and we pretended to eat, “Crow” and we put our hands on our heads etc. After gym classin circle time we made a big list of pets: cat, mouse, dog, rabbit, pig, chicks, birds, toucans, ants, donkeys, horses, turtles, snakes, guinea pigs and frogs. We also made a list of our favorite pets: Toku-Cat, Jennifer-Dogs, Nile-Cats, Wes-Dogs, Jessica-Dogs, Jeremy- Guinea pigs, Lucinda-Guinea pigs, Alexis-Fish, Marc-Toucan, Gaby- Cats, Riko- Fish, Arata-Snakes. We looked at a book called ‘Puppies are like that’ which showed us how puppies behave, what they like and how they can react in certain situations. Tomorrow we have a special secret pet day which we are all looking forward to. Have a great afternoon,
