A Sad and Happy Party

You may wonder how a party can be both sad and happy at the same time. Well, it was because we had our goodbye party for O, and a birthday party for L and M!

We welcomed our special visitors in our classroom: M, M’s mommy; K, L’s mommy; B and A, O’s Daddy and Mommy; and O’s baby brother. Pauline said it seems like there’s something missing from our birthday girls.

“Cards!” L said. R gave the birthday card we prepared to L, and S gave one to M as well. For O, we prepared a special placemat for her with all our pictures so she will always remember us whenever she uses it, and it also has a special drawing from John– John. After that, we gave our special message to O.

“Thank you for playing with me,” O said as he stood in front of O. A lot of our other friends echoed the same sentiment.

“I love you!” R told O. Our teachers also gave a special message, saying that they are happy to see how Olivia has grown up so much in Ohana– and that they will truly miss her and her family. They wished them good luck in their new adventure, and hoped that they will come visit Ohana. Some of the mommies said that they will pay O a visit— now, that sounds fun! But, wait— do you know where is O and her family moving to?

“Hong Kong” K answered, to which O confirmed with a nod.

But, before we could talk about where they were moving (Because giving our special messages and talking about her moving away made us feel a bit sad), we wished our birthday girls “Happy Birthday”! We sang a rousing rendition of the birthday song in English first, and then Japanese, French—

“But I don’t know how to do it in French,” H said.

“Don’t worry, K and O can teach us,” Pauline reassured her.

—and—

“Let’s do Chinese!” C suggested.

“I don’t know how to sing it in Chinese, too!” H commented. So, C, Pauline, and Nimo led the singing. We then asked their ages (M is 3 years old, and L is 4), so they asked us to do 3 then 4 big jumps for them! Pauline complained all the jumping was making her tired and hungry already! So M, M’s mommy said that they were going to open an ice cream shop for us (YAY!!!!), but while the parents were doing that, M asked us if we can point out on the map she brought, where was Japan, and where is Hong Kong— because that’s the place where O and her family are moving!

We did our best to figure it out where Japan was on the map– Nimo said that we pointed to places like Madagascar, China, Philippines, and the continent of Africa. Even B joined in, giving us some hints. Finally, A was able to find it, together with Os help. Then we found Hong Kong on the map, with C’s help (As he was from Hong Kong)— it was quite near Japan! So maybe paying Olivia a visit is a great idea, after all!

After that, the ice cream shop is ready for business! We all sat down and the parents helped us with scooping different flavors of ice cream– vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry! Our teachers helped put some whipped cream on it (There was even chocolate– flavored whipped cream– YUM), and we chose from an array of toppings— chocolate balls, different types of sprinkles, and fruits. We thanked the parents again for such a wonderful party, and they bid us goodbye.

After getting ready for the park, Nimo read us the book, “Elmer and the Stranger” by David McKee. It tells the story of a stranger that they found in the forest. The stranger was feeling sad, so Elmer and his friends did their best to help him out. It’s just like what we do in Petals, right? We help out each other, too!

We then went to the park, and we enjoyed playing in the cool weather. The End. Hihihi.

We have also started to talk about Halloween (That will be O’s exact last day), and we’re pretty excited with our costumes.

So, that concludes our Wednesday– how about you? How was your day?

Love,

All the sweet– toothed children in Petals Class
