Regular School Program

Ohana International School in Tokyo’s regular school program is for children aged 15 months to 5 years old. Flexible 2 to 5 days, full or half day programs are available. Our full day program is from 8:30am to 2:00 pm while our half day program finishes at 12:30 pm. Before and after school care is available starting from 7:30am and ends at 5:30pm.





After School Classes

We offer a wide range of after-school enrichment programs throughout the school year and are also open to non-Ohana students. After-school classes start from 2:30 onwards. Programs include: Phonics, ESL, Early Numeracy, Group Art, Design and Technology, Foreign Languages, Music, Dance and others. Program offerings are subject to change depending on the term.


Phonics & Literacy – Level 1

Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays
2:30 – 3:30PM

This class focuses on pre-reading and pre-writing skills. Through a structured sequence, students master letter recognition and the 42 sounds associated with the 26 letters of the English alphabet; providing a solid foundation for starting to read and write. Lessons are brought to life through creative activities, games, stories and play.

Suitable for 3-4 year old children who are proficient in conversational English.

Phonics & Literacy

3:30 – 4:30PM

2:30 – 3:30PM

This class develops first reading and writing skills through the mastery of sight words, basic grammar conventions such as consonant blending and basic punctuation. Students expand oral comprehension and develop the ability to write complete sentences.

Suitable for 5-6 year old children proficient in English who have mastered and fully understand all the sounds previously taught in Phonics  1.

Phonics & Literacy

3:30 – 4:30PM

This class continues to develop the skills foundation established in Phonics & Literacy 1 and 2. Students expand their vocabulary to include tricky words, memory games for words and word families. Students are introduced to independent and creative writing, spelling conventions, verb conjugation and early cursive letter formation. Irregular word endings and conjugations are also taught.

Suitable for 5-6 year old children proficient in English who have mastered Phonics 2.

* Many of the activities and skills covered in Phonics 1-3 come from the ‘Jolly Phonics’ and ‘Handwriting without Tears’ series. (Homework will be set if desired by parents)

ESL ( English as a Second Language)

4:30 – 5:30PM

This class develops language skills in English for non-native speakers. The focus is to develop basic vocabulary and grammar structures through conversation. Students acquire native pronunciation skills and improve speaking and oral comprehension.

Suitable for children 3-6 years old.


Music Appreciation

2:30 – 3:30PM

This class is all about experiencing and exploring the wonders of music. It also has themes that run through the completion of each month. The 3 main musical concepts that will be taken up are: 1) Musicality and Rhythm; 2) Creative and thematic musical movement and expressions; and 3) Confidence in performing such as singing and dancing.

Multi-age group



2:30 p.m. – 3:30PM

Paint, draw, cut, sculpt, glue, and build to foster creative expression and develop fine motor skills. New materials, themes and activities every week.

For children aged 3 years and up.


Kids Fitness

2:30 – 3:30PM

Our “Lacrosse” player/coach teacher, Sayaka will bring all her expertise and energy into our Kids Fitness classes. These classes will improve gross motor co-ordination, develop leadership skills, increase self esteem and teach team work in a fun way.

Ballet & Dance

2:30 – 3:30PM

This class will be an introduction to dance for children aged three and older. The first couple of sessions will be more about discovering and having fun with bodily movements while listening to a variety of music. Later, the children will learn simple ballet positions and steps as well as different types of rhythm. Every session will feature a warm-up period in a circle, then group activities in the center. At the end of the class, each student will get a chance to practice a movement one at a time. 



2:30 – 3:30PM

This class helps your child to develop coordination and concentration and teaches respect & discipline in a fun way.

For children 3 years old and older.


2:30 – 3:30PM / 3:30 – 4:30PM

Classes will focus on learning how to speak Mandarin Chinese using every day language appropriate for small children e.g. colours, days of the week, and general conversation.

Japanese (through music and songs)

2:30 – 3.30PM

This class will involve learning Japanese through songs and music. It will include learning about seasonal events in the Japanese calendar, animals, numbers, colours etc. Children will learn basic greetings in Japanese and how to have a conversation. Later on in the classes children will be introduced to letters of the Japanese alphabet in Hiragana and possibly learn to read words and some easy Kanji.


MONDAYS, Tuesdays, Thursdays and FridayS

Maximum 3 children per class

Piano classes include learning the names of the notes as well as numbers related to them. Children can enjoy doing actions to rhythms and songs that they know with singing and dancing. They will use their senses to understand the music e. g. looking, listening, feeling, moving etc.


Early Numeracy

2:30 – 3:30PM

Through games and activities, children develop understanding of numbers, shapes and patterns. Begin sorting and classification. Practice logical thinking and seriation.

For children aged 4 years and up.



3:30 – 4:30PM

2:30 – 3:30PM / 3:30 – 4:30PM

Fun French classes through games, songs and activities.


Little Engineers

2:30 – 3:30PM

Design.  Innovate.  Create.  Construct.  Learn about materials and the construction process.  Develop fine motor skills, gain an understanding of materials, and use real tools to cut, shape, and make objects.  

For children aged 4 to 6 years old.

Summer School


Registration is now OPEN for summer school!  This year, summer school will run from June 19th to July 28th, 2017.  Registration closes May 31st, 2017.

Curious Minds

2017 Summer Discovery Program

For a child, everything is new and mysterious. To make sense of the world, they must experience, discover, wonder and question.  This summer, join us as we explore new, mysterious and magical things on our "Curious Minds" discovery program.

Our summer program is an extension of Ohana's regular program with new themes explored every week!  This summer, let your child  be a Scientist, an Inventor, an Explorer, a Chef, an Artist or an Archaeologist.  

  • June 19th to 23rd (Week 1):  I am a SCIENTIST
  • June 26th to 30th (Week 2):  I am an INVENTOR
  • July 3rd to 7th (Week 3): I am a CHEF
  • July 10th to 14th (Week 4): I am an EXPLORER
  • July 17th to 21st (Week 5):  I am an ARTIST
  • July 24th to 28th (Week 6): I am an ARCHAEOLOGIST

A minimum of 2 days per week is required. Full day and half day, before and after school care (till 4:00pm)  are available (no after-school classes).  Price per day is Jpy 10,000 for full-day and Jpy 8,500 for half day program (tax excluded).
