Around the World Flags

We hope you all had a great weekend and managed to stay warm. This morning on the table we saw the special boxes that we painted all white last week. Some of us missed this and started our morning by painting the special boxes all white. Each box had a lid too and we made sure that we put our names in both parts. On the table next to the boxes was a container of water and lots and lots of sparkly nail polish. We wondered if we were going to paint our nails which would have been nice. It turns out the plan was to put some nice color on our special boxes. We started by putting on a smock to make sure our nice clothes didn’t get any nail polish on them and then chose 2 or 3 colors of nail polish each. We spread some of the nail polish on the surface of the water by pouring it slowly while moving our hands back and forwards. We then added the second and third colors. So that we didn’t need to get nail polish on our hands we used some blue tack to stick a pencil inside the box temporarily. We then dipped the box into the water and nail polish and made sure none of the water went inside the box. When we took it out of the water and the nail polish left a beautiful pattern on the box. We put these aside to dry and then did the lid in the same way. Wow, they look beautiful. On the carpet the Duplo blocks were very popular today and many of us built things with the brightly colored box. In the park we played ‘What’s the time Mr. Wolf’? and did a lot of running to warm up. In today’s gym class we warmed up a lot as it was a bit cold in the park, especially after walking back. We practiced our reverse rolling today and all waited so nicely for our turns. In circle time we looked at the big wall map of the world and the small world globe. We talked about where we were born and where we live now. We also saw a big streamer with lots of countries flags on them and pulled it out of the packet and saw how long it was. It turned out to be about 3 meters long. We are doing to put this up in the classroom soon. The flags on the streamer are from lots of different countries and we recognized Japan, America, Korea, Italy and France. We looked at a book called ‘Children around the World’ which showed lots of different countries. The first one in the book said ‘Britain’ and told us how the little boy liked to play soccer and enjoyed going to his new school in London. The second country we saw was America and it showed a little girl who enjoyed playing baseball and lived in New York. We also looked quickly at Canada where it was very cold and the boy went to school on a snowmobile as well as India where the little girl and her brother enjoyed writing stories in English and Hindi at school. We hope Pooja can tell us more about India and teach us to count in Hindi too. Have a great afternoon and we look forward to seeing you all again tomorrow.

All our love, Darren, Ayaka, Pooja and Ryoan.
