Apples dipped in honey

We had a really beautiful story this morning called “The Little Red House with No Doors and No Windows”. Shelley didn’t have a book for story time, she just told us the story from her head. The story was about a little boy who was tired of playing with his toys so his mom told him to go outside and find a little red house with no windows and no doors, and a star inside. We thought that there is no such thing as this. How can a house have no windows and no doors? How can you get inside a house if there is no door? How can you see the weather outside if there are no windows? And stars are in the sky, not in a house. We were so amazed when Shelley told us the story all the way to the end. She said that she will send a copy of the story to all our mums and dads, so that we can read it at home with them. Maybe they too don’t know how to find a little red house, with no windows and no doors, and a star inside. We wonder if OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

they can guess.

After Shelley had finished telling us the story, she showed us an apple which she cut in half. We counted that there were two pieces so when you cut something in half, you make two parts. We couldn’t believe our eyes, when we looked at the two halves….there was something magical inside. Yes, there were two stars, one on each half. So the apple was the little red house with no windows and no doors, and a star inside. Amazing! Our teachers watched our faces carefully to see how surprised we were. Then Shelley cut a second apple in the same way and once again, there were two stars inside. The third apple, she decided to cut differently. This time, she cut through the centre of it, where the stalk is that attaches it to a

tree…..and…….there was no star. Akari said that it looked like a butterfly shape. We were a little shocked that there was no star and maybe even a little disappointed. Why were there stars in the other apples and not in this one? Maybe we can try to cut two apples in different ways at home and see whether there are stars inside them. Then Shelley told us that it is the Jewish New Year and she ate apples dipped in honey for a sweet New Year. She also said that when you dip the apple in honey, you can think about how you can do things better in your life in the

coming here e. g. maybe you can be more kind to people, maybe you

can think about other people more; maybe you can be helpful to those who need help etc. She closed her eyes and dipped a piece of apple into the honey…..and she sang a song: “Mother took some honey and she took an apple too Then she said: Come here my child, I have a gift for you Let’s begin the New Year with a special, special treat May the year be happy, may the year be sweet?” At snack time, we had apples dipped in honey; well some of us had apples dipped in honey. And those of us that liked it, ate so many pieces dipped in honey.

Daiki is now four years old and his mom made him the most beautiful birthday obento today. Happy Birthday Daiki kun. During the morning we did some fun activities making people, threading beads and playing with play dough. We did some stretching exercises, sang many action songs and finger plays and loved being in the park, with the warm sunshine on us. Have a great afternoon and evening and see you tomorrow Love always Shelley, Hisami and Liezel
