The sense of touch

Happy Wednesday! Since it started raining a bit earlier than we expected, we had to change our plan today. It turned out to be a very fun indoor day!

For free play time, we had playdough, painting (the banner for our World Book Day), blocks, and reading books.

We started learning about the five senses and we did the sense of touch today. After our snack time, we all gathered together for today’s circle time. Sayaka asked us a question while showing us her hands, “What can we do with our hands?” She started moving her fingers.

Sayaka: What am I doing? *Tapped A’s shoulder*
A: Touching. Touching me!
Sayaka: What am I doing? “Touched E’s toe.”
E: Touch, me!”
Sayaka: *Wiggled her fingers*
M: Wiggle.
A: I can do this. *Shake hands.
E: I can do this super duper fast.
M: I can super duper fast, too!
Sayaka: How about when you touch the floor?”
A: Hard.
R: Feels cold.
M: Hard.
Then Sayaka brought two bowls of water and placed them in front of us. One was warm water and the other one was cold water. We all took turns to feel cold and warm.

After that, we played a game, “Touch and Guess”. The rules were very simple. We covered our eyes with a bandana, then we touched one of the materials Sayaka prepared. We tell her if it feels soft, hard, warm, cold, sticky, or something else. “Who wants to start?” Sayaka asked and E happily volunteered to do the first game.

E: (Block) Soft.
Y: (Glue) Soft and sticky.
L: (Blocks) Hot….
E: (Play dough) Cold…hard.
R: (A’s glove) Cold…It’s only cold. It’s gloves!
B: (Soft toy) Sticky, soft.
M: (Block) Hard..Warm..
A: (Play dough) Soft…Cold…
R: (Glue) Soft…?
S: (Soft toy) Soft, cold!

It was a fun game! Sayaka asked if we would like to feel “Sticky”. Most of us wanted to try it so Sayaka put a little glue on our palms. It was sticky, but we actually enjoyed it! Then it was time for a snack!

We were going to go to the library to return the books today. After we finished our snack, we enjoyed reading library books for a little while. When it was about to leave, our teachers felt raindrops…Oh no! It started raining…We all had to come back to class.

Since we really enjoyed egg hunting at Arisugawa park yesterday, our teachers decided to do it in Petals class. Before the egg hunt, our teachers gathered our ideas for our mommy day wall. We still have a bit more time until mommy’s day, but we just wanted to make sure that we have enough time to prepare for the special day. After our teachers asked us why we love our moms, it was time for egg hunting! We were so excited to find them.

Just before lunch, we had nice music time. We all requested Nimo to play many songs. “Nimo, can we sing this song?” One of the requests was a Christmas song. Nimo was wondering if we really wanted to sing because the season has already ended. “It’s alright!” We enjoyed singing Christmas songs very much.

Thank you very much for the wonderful day and see you all tomorrow.

Ps One of us requested reading the book, “Don't Push the Button by Cotter William. Sayaka read it for story time. We all love the book so we asked Nimo again to read it before afternoon class.

Love,

Petals
