First Signs of Spring

Happy Wednesday! We have been enjoying another amazing day in Flowers class!

MORNING ACTIVITIES

We attempted our Asia puzzle again today and found success! It’s really challenging, but we persisted. Many friends contributed to complete it!

We ended our morning free time as soon as everyone arrived today so that we could have an early snack and make our way to Arisugawa Park!

PARK TIME

Since the weather was finally sunny and not too cold, we jumped at the chance to enjoy some time outside today! On our excursion to Azabu Library yesterday, we saw a tree that we believed to be a cherry blossom, although we might be wrong. Either way, we were happy to see signs of spring!

We decided to go to Arisugawa Park to find other signs of spring! Even though it takes a long time to go to Arisugawa Park, it took even longer today, because we made the mistake of taking the road towards Kogai Park instead. Some of us noticed right away, but it took a little longer for our teachers to realize that we were headed the wrong way! Rather than go back, we took the "scenic route" to Arisugawa Park.

Although we had never went this way, some of us were familiar with the area, with Gr mentioning that we could get to his house from there!

Luckily, we spotted a map of the area, and Ta pointed out where we were on it! Arisugawa Park took up much of the map, and we found an entrance to the park on the map and headed in that direction.

We had never entered from this side of the park before, so we let the park leaders Mi and Ri decide which paths to take. Early on, we didn’t see any signs of spring, but after crossing the bridge, we saw a big tree with big pink flowers and a little tree with what Aria thought would eventually grow into raspberries or maybe blackberries.

These were nice, but we weren’t satisfied. We kept looking! After a while of walking down the path we saw a beautiful tree with pink flowers in the distance! We found our first sign of spring! We decided to sit our water bottles down there and play!

CIRCLE TIME

After returning from the park, we described the signs of spring that we observed!

Ei: Cherry blossom tree!
Ke: I see the coconut tree! But no coconuts.
Hi: Acorns!
Th: Rocks and sticks!
Ar: Raspberries, but it is not spring yet, so no raspberries.

Ar also brought something back from the park!

Ar: I find these two leaves in the park!

DO WE LOOK LIKE OUR GRANDPARENTS?

A few of us remembered the homework that Brandon gave us yesterday and sent us some pictures of their grandparents so we can compare!

First, we looked at Ei and his grandparents!

Ei: This is my grandpa.
Ar: They have the same hair.
Ei: But my hair is brown and my grandpa’s is black.
Ar: The shape is the same.

Now let’s look at Re and her grandparents!

Hi: The face is different. The hair too! The mouth also.
Re: Everybody tells me I look like El!

How about Mi? Does she look like her grandparents?

Yu: No!
Ma: Same nose as grandpa!
Mi: No, I have the same as my grandma.
Ty: Hair is the same as grandma.

Cameron also remembered to bring a picture of his two grandpas to show that they are also tall! Just like him!

We had fun looking at the differences and similarities between us and our grandparents!

QUESTION OF THE DAY

Gr and Th read our question of the day…

“Do you still look like a baby?”

Only one friend said yes.

Sh: Yes, but bigger! My mom says that I’m her baby!

Everyone else said no. Let’s find out why!

Ar: No, because we can talk now, but babies can’t.
Ke: When I was a baby, I was this (showing how small he was compared to now)
Ei: Everything changes size when you’re a baby.
Mi: Inside your body will change too.
Re: First, they’re screaming, and then they don’t scream.

We’re pretty consistent in believing that we change as we get older. Let’s look at the progression of someone from a baby to the age of Flowers friends to see if our ideas match up with an example.

We were shown a picture of someone as a newborn baby. We had no idea who it was. It could be anybody! We looked at another picture of the same baby a little later in life. Some of us thought it was Th!

Th: I don’t have a t-shirt like this!
Sh: I have that same shirt! I think it’s me!

We put the photo next to Sh’s face to compare, but it didn’t look like him, so we checked another progression of the baby’s face.

We saw the baby had turned into a kid who looked like he could be in our class!

Re: Au!

The person had blonde hair just like Au, so we thought it must be him! But Au sdoesn’t go to Ohana anymore, so maybe it’s someone else. Was it O?

O: No!

We eventually pointed at everyone in our class, but we all denied that it was one of us. Then Ta noticed something!

Ta: Eyes look a bit like Cameron!

Ta was right! All of the pictures were of Cameron when he was little! We couldn’t believe it! We rushed up to Cameron to get a closer look. We had to look through all the pictures again so we could confirm it! Cameron really changed a lot since he was a baby and even more since he was our age! We wonder what we will look like when we’re the same age as our teachers!

During library time after lunch, we all looked at our life books to see how much we’ve changed since we were babies! It’s fun to see the progression we’ve all made so far in our lives and comparing ourselves to ourselves instead of comparing ourselves to others.

Let’s ask our parents tonight about the ways we’ve changed and the ways in which we’ve stayed the same.

Have a wonderful evening!

Love,
Flowers XOXO
