Having fun with our gym teacher

Good morning everyone! Hope you had a wonderful weekend with the family. We are so ready to come to school today and our classroom atmosphere is much more settled and comfortable than before. After doing our morning jobs, we went straight to our activity areas and got some construction blocks. Goh-san was there to help make some cars and other vehicles that we could move around the classroom. We loved imagining driving and moving the cars until we could arrive at our destination.

Our special art for today was making a birthday card. Some of the Ohana teachers had their birthdays last month and we wanted to celebrate them this week so we’re coloring the cards for them. We also had our sensory toys on the table and we tried to make sure that we counted the beads and learned the colors with our friends and teachers. There were also some cone-shaped puzzles that we needed to assemble or to design various figures from it. We certainly appreciate all the activities that we do here in the classroom.

Before going upstairs to Miyashita-sensei, we sat down and sang songs together for our simple circle time. We loved to sing, “Everybody, clap!” There were so many actions that we needed to do like jumping, marching, turning around, flapping wings and shaking our bodies. This activity is also important for our gross and fine motors and also developing our spatial awareness. Afterwards, we went upstairs and had a class with Miyashita-sensei.

For our gym class, we did some warm-up and stretching exercises. First, we all stood up straight and slowly stretching our arms from side-to-side. We then went down like a small ball and then jump so high as much as we could. Then, we all did the animal actions like the bunny jump, bear crawl and frog jump. We also had to make sure that we’re listening to our teacher’s whistle before doing all the exercises. The challenge that we had today was standing on the cushion and jumping off from it. We had a wonderful time and most of our friends were so cooperative with us. Our last game was the ghost game again. When the ghost knocked on our door, we had to run to the other side of the classroom as fast as we could so that the ghost wouldn’t catch us. It was a very nice session with our gym teacher but we had to say goodbye to him for now. Thank you so much, Miyashita-sensei for a fun gym time.

When we arrived at our classroom, John told us to get some Lego blocks that we could play with. We enjoyed building our own toys by using our imagination and exploring various shapes that we could make out of these toys. John also showed us the piano keys and pointed which notes correspond to the keys. We all sang, ‘do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti-do” and going down, “do-ti-la-sol-fa-mi-re-do”.  We also went to the balcony and played with the sand box and sensory toys. It was not really that hot so the weather was perfect for all of us. We also practiced holding onto the rope and it was very successful again. Great job everyone!

Thank you so much Ohana for the wonderful day and see you all again tomorrow! Have a great day!

Lots of love,
